Problem Statement
The widespread availability and accessibility of information on social media platforms frequently leads individuals to encounter challenges related to misinformation and misguidance. This can result in not only financial and reputational repercussions but also sometimes tragic loss of life.
The challenge lies in developing a feature that allows users to collaboratively curate information, adding credibility and diverse perspectives without compromising the user experience or platform integrity.
What is Misinformation and why solve now?
Information disorder can be classified into 3 sections as in the diagram below :

When we are referring to misinformation in our PRD, we are referring to all the above types of information disorder (misinformation, disinformation, mal-Information)
Misinformation on social media platforms can lead to a range of significant issues, both on an individual and societal level. Here are some of the key issues caused by misinformation on social media apps:
- Social Harmony: The spread of misinformation poses a risk of disturbing social harmony as it can fuel social divisions, incite violence, and create panic or mistrust among communities (source: USC Study). Some misinformation are spread in a deliberate attempt to impose a political agenda.
- Credibility Impact: The credibility of social media platforms is at stake, which affects both the company and users' trust. Users may stop using the services altogether.
- Economic Consequences: Billions of dollars can be lost due to the spread of misinformation, leading to drastic drops in share prices of affected companies.
- Escalating Risk: With increasing user bases on social media platforms, the risk associated with misinformation grows deeper. Advancements in technology make it easier to spread misinformation, further exacerbating the problem.
- Personal Reputations at Stake: Misinformation, especially false allegations, can ruin someone's life and reputation. For example, false accusations of harassment or misconduct can severely impact individuals' lives and livelihoods.
- Political Polarisation: Deliberate derailing political agendas by institutions and individuals can lead to inauthentic political consequences.
User behavior around the Spread of Misinformation :
- Emotional Play - People are more likely to believe false statements that appeal to emotions such as fear and outrage.
